Cortisol has a real job

Cortisol is produced by the adrenal glands and helps regulate the stress response, metabolism, blood pressure, immune activity, and the sleep-wake cycle. Too much or too little can matter clinically, but ordinary stress does not automatically prove a cortisol disorder.

Symptoms are not a diagnosis

Fatigue, poor sleep, weight changes, anxiety, and cravings are real, but they are nonspecific. They can arise from many causes. “Adrenal fatigue” is not recognized as a proven medical diagnosis by major endocrine organizations.

What actually helps

Consistent sleep timing, regular meals, movement, social support, reducing excessive alcohol, and evidence-based mental-health care can support stress regulation. Persistent or severe symptoms deserve medical evaluation rather than a countertop full of mystery powders.

When testing makes sense

Cortisol testing is used when clinicians suspect conditions such as Cushing syndrome or adrenal insufficiency. Random online testing without interpretation can create more confusion than clarity.
